When you book a stay at the Casa del Gobernador by Época Suites , you're not just choosing charming accommodation in Seville, you're immersing yourself in a fascinating history that connects architecture, diplomacy, urban planning, and local memory.
And it all begins with a singular figure: Don Carlos Delgado Brackenbury , known to many as “the Governor.”
Often referred to by the nickname "Governor," Brackenbury was not a governor in the classic political sense, but he was a key figure in the institutional and urban life of 20th-century Seville. He held important public offices, including deputy mayor, and was one of the most visible figures in the organization of the famous Ibero-American Exposition of 1929.
A man of the world, with British roots and an Andalusian spirit, Brackenbury lived in the historic center of Seville, where he left a profound mark, not only administratively but also aesthetically. He championed a modern, cultured, and open city, while maintaining its heritage.
His influence was so notable that many Sevillians and visitors of the time referred to him simply as "the Governor," a nickname that over the years became a symbol of elegance, gentle authority, and love for Seville.
The Governor's House is not just named in honor of Brackenbury: it was, in fact, his own residence.
In 1928, in the midst of the urban beautification process prior to the Ibero-American Exposition, Brackenbury commissioned the remodeling of his house to the prestigious Sevillian architect Juan Talavera y Heredia .
Talavera, one of the greatest exponents of Andalusian regionalism, designed works such as the Murillo Gardens, the Paseo Catalina de Ribera, and elements of the Plaza de América. In this house, he fused Neo-Mudejar and Neo-Baroque influences with ornate exposed brick, handcrafted ceramics, artistic forging, and a perfect balance between modernity and tradition.
The house was inaugurated in late 1928 as part of the cultural events leading up to the Exposition. It hosted international dignitaries, held soirees and diplomatic meetings, and even King Alfonso XIII visited the area during this event.
Over the years, the house retained its aura of a noble residence, until it was carefully restored and adapted to the 21st century without losing its character.
Today, staying at the Governor's House by Época Suites is a unique experience. The house has been restored with the utmost respect for its original features, while incorporating all modern amenities for a luxurious stay.
At Época Suites, we don't just offer designer accommodations: we capture the soul of each historic home, connecting past and present, and taking care of every detail so you feel part of history.
Sleeping in a place with history is not the same as sleeping anywhere else.

The name is a double tribute:
